About Us

Thornhill Pianos has been specialising in the rental and sale of pianos, fortepianos and harpsichords in London since 1988.

The principals noticed a gap in the market for high quality reconditioned upright and grand pianos by such famous makes as Steinway, Bechstein, Bluthner, Bosendorfer, and Grotian Steinweg.  Typically, these instruments can either be purchased privately, although the condition of the piano will inevitably vary greatly from one instrument to another, or from a piano retailer, in which case the high overheads of running a retail operation tend to result in the price of the instrument ending up at least 50% higher than what we consider to be a fair price.

Thornhill Pianos operates from a private house thus avoiding the heavy cost of retail premises.  Customers also have the benefit of being able to look at their chosen instrument in a domestic setting, instead of in a retail showroom, where the piano they have come to see is inevitably crowded in amongst dozens of other pianos.

We love our pianos and delight in seeing them going into the homes of discriminating music-lovers. By keeping our stock down to a small selection of only the finest instruments, we can prepare each one thoroughly and ensure that it is perfectly in tune when you come to play it.

At Thornhill Pianos you can expect a warm welcome and professional advice, with the time and space in which to choose a piano suitable to your needs.  We employ no salesmen, so you will always be dealing directly with one of the principals of the business.
