Wendl & Lung pianos are made in a state-of-the art factory in Ningbo, China, and regulated and tone by skilled Viennese technicians and offer an impressive combination of power, even tone throughout the compass and a satisfying and responsive action. Wendl & Lung 122 cm upright piano

Wendl & Lung have been making pianos since 1910, blending tradition and innovation. The current range has been designed by Peter Veletsky, the renowned piano master-craftsman and designer. In 2007, this 122 model won a top rating of 6 stars in the prestigious French ‘Diapason d’Or’ award. The jury commented: “Its pleasing sound is unquestioned. With clarity and roundness of tone, it is well-balanced across registers,with a high quality of sound even in the extreme areas: It provides a generous bass and a high treble, which isn’t overly aggressive, whereas the medium treble range can really sing. The 122 provided a winning combination of quality and price during this test. We can truly say that a demanding pianist with a limited budget, looking for interesting sounds to work with, will be amazed and satisfied by this piano.”

Turn-of-the-Century Bechstein Model B Grand Piano in Rosewood

This 6ft 7in rosewood Bechstein B grand from the turn of the century is one of the best pianos we have had for a long time, and the finest of many Bechsteins we have restored over the years. The instrument has been painstakingly restored in every detail to the very highest standard, including a complete re-veneering in rosewood with a subtle polyester finish to make the case durable. While you would normally pay over £20,000 for such a beautiful piano, we are able to offer it for only £13,950.

Turn-of-the-century 6' 3" Bluthner Aliquot grand in black polyester

The result of all of this expert reconditioning is a piano with a tone unmatched by any modern instrument of this size. The patented Bluthner Aliquot system, which provides a fourth string to each note from the middle of the piano upwards, resonating an octave above the actual frequency of the other three strings, further enhances this piano’s rich tonal characteristics and Bluthner’s very under-rated Patent action has all the responsiveness of a roller action, but it manages to achieve this with a significnatly lighter touch-weight.

Upon completion of the factory rebuild, the Patent action has been “finessed” by Mike Lewis, our Technical Director, who is undoubtedly one of UK’s top piano technicians, and a renowned expert on Bluthner Patent actions, resulting in a piano which is enormously satisfying to play.

Completely restored Bechstein model B Grand in Black Polyester

This lovely 6ft 7in Bechstein B grand from the last decade of the nineteenth century is another fine example of this iconic model. The instrument has the full 88-note keyboard and it has been totally restored to the very highest standard, with a a new wrest-plank. re-finished frame and a completely rebuilt action

The original soundboard has been retained and completely repaired, as the tonal characteristics of the existing soundboard are almost always superior to that of a new replacement and we have also been fortunate enough to be able to retain and restore the original hammers,

1907 restored Art Nouveau Schiedmayer upright

This is a lovely Schiedmayer from their golden period before the first World War which is currently undergoing restoration, which will include a delightful, newly french-polished mahogany Art Nouveau case, fully reconditioned action, perfect ivory keys and complete restringing with Heller strings. This will also an impressive musical instrument with a fine, powerful but mellow tone, and represents outstanding value at only £4,750

Toyo 123 cm black polyester upright

Toyo are still not very well known in this country but they are actually Japan’s third-largest piano-maker and their instruments are well designed and built to high standards.

We’ve been impressed by both the tone and the touch of these instruments. If you don’t have room for a really decent-sized grand, then this instrument is a worthy alternative.

Broadwood Concert Grand Piano

An 8ft 6in Broadwood straight-strung concert grand from the 1870s with rosewood case in working order for only £4,995
